Scope and Contents
Photocopied excerpts of the family Bible of Frederick (1793-1858) and Susannah Longstreth (1800-1880) VanGilder, including family genealogy and history. Frederick was the son of Jacob VanGilder, a Revolutionary War veteran that had immigrated from Holland. Susannah was the daughter of Revolutionary War Captain Philip Longstreth. Birth, marriage, and death records of the twelve children of Frederick and Susannah are included, although incomplete. Children include: Salome, Sarah Anne, Joseph, Joseph, Margaret, Asenath, Jacob, William, Abigail, James, Philip, Martin S. and Nancy. There is also a two page family history narrative by Todd and Connie Tennant VanGilder, and a copy of the "VanGilder Ancestors" from "The History of Marion County" (1985). Color images of the Bible are included in the collection as well. The Bible itself is currently located at the Marion County Historical Society in Fairmont, West Virginia.
