Abstract
The original manuscript of an address delivered on July 4, 1844, by Joseph Johnson, Bridgeport, (West) Virginia, who served
seven terms in the United States House of Representatives from Virginia prior to 1847 and as governor of Virginia from 1851
to 1856. Also included are a typescript obituary of Johnson, from a Baltimore newspaper, and a manuscript copy of the above
address.
