Abstract
An ALS to Dr. [D. B.] Purinton, President of West Virginia University, in which William Jennings Bryan (1860-1925) gives the
President $250 to be invested by the university, the income there from to be given as an annual prize "for the best essay
in the science of government." It was hoped that the prize would "stimulate the students to more earnest and diligent study
of the principles which underlie free Institutions."
