Abstract
One scrapbook of newspaper articles, kept by the historian for the Princeton Chapter (New Jersey) of the Daughters of the
American Revolution (DAR), Elizabeth Denny Paxton. The majority regard the Seventh through the Tenth Annual Continental Congresses
of the DAR (1898-1901). There are newspaper articles covering each day of all three congresses, which include information
about officer elections, rates of dues, photographs of DAR representatives, and awards, such as Founders Metals. Newspapers
represented include: Evening Star, Harper's Bazaar, The New York Times, The Washington Post, the New York Tribune, and the
Pittsburg Post. There is also one newspaper photograph of the Seventh Congress, and one of the officers in the Tenth Congress.
Collection includes some articles not directly related to the Congresses, including an article about the presentation to the
USS Princeton of the bell and library by the Princeton Chapter of New York (Daily Princetonian, December 12, 1898). There
are also several articles concerning George Washington's headquarters at Rock Hill, New Jersey during the Revolutionary War,
including a picture from the New York Times. The subject of Rock Hill is covered by the Princeton Press, Princeton Signal,
New York Times, and Home Journal. The collection also includes the following: a circular requesting funds for a Continental
Memorial Hall to be erected at the capital; a newspaper article relating the death of Mrs. Donald McLean, an honorary president -general for the organization (May 19, 1916); and an article announcing the Flag Day meeting planned by the DAR (May 28, 1923).
