Abstract
Photocopy of a page from a 1751 London book of maps on which in 1779, John William Beall listed his scholars in a short term
subscription school. The school was taught in a cabin at the mouth of Buffalo Creek (Buffalo Station) near Fairmont. This
is thought to have been the first school taught in what is now West Virginia west of the Allegheny Mountains. There is also
a letter from Glenn D. Lough giving information on the class list.
