Biographical / Historical
Perley Isaac Reed was born on September 18, 1887, in Lowell Ohio. He graduated from Marietta College and earned a PhD in English from Ohio State University in 1916. Reed served as head of the English department at the University of Maryland until 1920 and then came to West Virginia University to teach English. Reed founded the WVU School of Journalism in 1939. Perley Isaac Reed died in April 1973.
