Abstract
The West Virginia University Ethics Study Committee was established in the early 1980s, with Elizabeth D. Gee, a nationally recognized leader in medical and legal ethics, serving as the executive director of the committee from 1983 to 1985. Papers such as correspondence files, meeting planning files, subject files, clippings, newsletters, and pamphlets, all from the 1980s, document early efforts to operate the ethics committee and support its work with outside resources related to the study of ethics. Files appear to be from the director's office and have been left in their original file folders. Correspondence files are organized in alphabetical order and chiefly relate to programming, events, and the basic operations of the committee. Organizational materials chiefly include planning committee agendas and schedules related to the inaugural conference in the fall of 1984; application materials and reports from an NEH Ethics and Education grant from the early 1908s; and clippings and publicity related to ethics events. Additional resources include subject files related to ethics in various fields of study; ethics newsletters, bibliographies of ethics resources, and copies of published articles about ethics.
