Content Description

Bound copy of the fifth draft of the play The Night of the Hunter by Davis Grubb (1976). Grubb was born in Moundsville, West Virginia in 1919, and wrote The Night of the Hunter as a thriller novel in 1953, basing the plot on the true story of murderer Harry Powers. The novel was made into a movie in 1955 and a musical version premiered in 2004. This typescript draft of the play includes inscriptions and the author's signature on the title page. Also included is a photocopy of a newspaper clipping titled "Movie at Moundsville Adds $750,000 to Area Economy" (1971), about the filming of the movie Fools' Parade , which was based on Grubb's novel of the same name.
