Content Description

Letters to Lucy M. Hite of Fairmont, Marion County, West Virginia from various family members and friends. The letters discuss family events, personal matters, religion, education, sickness and death, housework, weather, holidays, farming, and local weddings. One letter, written 14 November 1883, discusses the discovery of coal near Newburg, West Virginia . Lucy received frequent correspondence from her friend Anna Miller, a school teacher in Fairmont, and from her cousin Tona Minnear, a store clerk in Newburg and correspondent for the Preston County Journal.
