Biographical / Historical

Marguerite More was a Fairfax County/Alexandria, Virginia woman who saved papers and clippings related to her schools and activities dating from the 1930s. From fall 1937 to spring 1939 Marguerite More attended Lee-Jackson High School, then the school was closed and its students were transferred to the newly constructed Mount Vernon High School. Lee-Jackson became an elementary school for the increasing number of students at this time. Marguerite More attended Mount Vernon High from the Fall of 1939 until she graduated in the Spring of 1941.

Content Description

This collection contains school papers, clippings, and memorabilia beginning with the Leonardo Grade and Grammar School (location unknown) and the Groveton Elementary School of Fairfax County, Virginia. Other series include a publication called the "Virginia 4-H Club Letter" and newspapers of Lee-Jackson High School and Mount Vernon High School from 1937-1971. There is a 1938 Lee-Jackson yearbook as well as miscellaneous materials ranging from school cheers and football tickets to school plays. Also in this collection are pre-World War II newspaper clippings relating to the schools and everyday life including such topics as: accidents, deaths and marriages. Travel flyers relating to Alexandria, Mount Vernon, Carlyle House, and the Natural Bridge have been transferred to other collections.
