Biographical Note

Jane E. Rhodes Brewer (1830-1904) was a devoutly religious woman who lived in Keezletown, Rockingham County, Virginia, just southeast of Harrisonburg. Brewer was a member of the Methodist Church and travelled to homes to share the gospel with other families.

Brewer married constable and farmer Adam H. Brewer in about 1855, and they had a son, Dr. Scott W. Brewer.

Scope and Content

The Jane Rhodes Brewer Diary contains entries of her daily activities with a focus on health, family, and religion in 1882. The diary also includes details of an extended trip Mrs. Brewer took through the Midwest as she went as far as St. Louis, Missouri, visiting family who had moved away from Virginia.
