The True & Blanchard Receipt was purchased by Special Collections and University Archives in December 2016.

The processing, arrangement, and description of the True & Blanchard Receipt was completed in January 2024.
Administrative History
True & Blanchard Company began with William W. True opening a tin store in 1844; E. C. Blanchard joined the company in 1866. True & Blanchard expanded their business with increased stock and services, making the business a full-service hardware store. In 1894, the company was joined by J.R. Atkin. The business focused on maple sugaring tools and equipment and even created their own line of maple sugaring products. E. C. Blanchard left the company in 1906, but the company's name remained. True & Blanchard continued to expand, new facilities were acquired all over Newport, VT. Business was thriving and in 1919, W.W. True and J.R. Atkin sold their company to Vermont Farm Medicine Company of Bellow Falls, VT.

Scope and Content
The True & Blanchard Receipt addressed to E. T. Goodnough is dated Febuary 26, 1894. The receipt includes a list of items and their prices bought over the course of a year, it records the payment date of April 16th.
