Items within this collection include:

A letter, dated 7 May 1934, written by Van A. Bittner and addressed to the officers and members of the local unions of district 7, United Mine Workers of America. The letter urges them to support the ongoing strike by miners at Widen, West Virginia against the Elk River Coal and Lumber Company.

A letter, dated 8 January 1937, from C.W. Hodge of Mabscott, West Virginia to John L. Lewis, President of the United Mine Workers of America. Hodge writes on behalf of the local union (no. 5878) requesting information regarding potentially illegal practices of the New River Coal Company.
