Abstract
Twenty-four ledgers document the operations of the Reed General Store in Boothsville, Taylor County, West Virginia, from 1851
to 1893. These account books contain an inventory of items sold, mainly food products, to identified customers and a record
of credit extended to those who were given loans to purchase at the store. The books reflect the organization of the store
by Joseph Reed, who along with his uncle, Robert Reed, helped to found and develop this town, in which the family also owned
and operated a tannery, mill, and tavern. Also included is a description of the family and a list of descendants.
