Content Description

Two articles by Henry W. Gould, Professor of Mathematics at West Virginia University, with related material. One of the articles, "History of the Old Telescope and Observatory at West Virginia University", was originally published in 1967 and regards the early study of astronomy at the university ca. 1872-1919. Related is a one page article, which references Gould's, regarding the burning of the old observatory in 1919. The other article by Gould is a six-page paper entitled "Where Has Gone Our Sense of Humor", with a related letter from Joseph C. Gluck to Gould, regarding the UVA Pep Band controversy.
