Acquisition Information

Collection is orphaned. Based on the original call number, items were likely donated in 2004.

Processing Information

At the time of processing, the scrapbooks had been disassembled; a photocopy of each scrapbook had been made to document the original layout, and papers and ephemera had been removed and collected into a file folder. The scrapbooks were formerly assigned call number SU 2004-1215, Student Memorabilia and General Scrapbooks, 1945, 1946, 1947.


Administrative History

The Madison College freshman class met routinely in order to conduct elections for class officers and other elected positions, form committees to carry out social events on campus, make class gifts and donations, and take actions on behalf of the class.

Scope and Content

The Freshman Class Scrapbooks are comprised of four disassembled scrapbooks containing correspondence, programs, invitations, telegrams and ephemera that document class elections and campus activities of the Madison College freshman class, from 1945-1949. The scrapbooks contain photocopies of newspaper clippings from The Breeze referring to Big Sister Little Sister events, Class Day, and the Old Girl-New Girl wedding.

The 1945-1946 Freshman Class Scrapbook includes the document, "Activities of the Freshman Class, 1945-1946" which discusses the formation of the Honor Council, the election of class officers, and social committees. The scrapbook includes thank you notes and invitations; decorative place cards created for a banquet; a note with the Freshman Class song or cheer; and a menu of food items for an Athletics Association reception.

The 1946-1947 Freshman Class Scrapbook contains a program for "May Day in Merrie England" event sponsored by the Athletic Association, with performances by orchestra and Glee club; a program for Homecoming events with performances by the orchestra, Glee Club and Madison College Dance Group; a playbill for "Kind Lady," performed by the Stratford Dramatic Club; and correspondence with presidents of the Athletic Association, YWCA and Alumna Association.

The 1947-1948 Freshman Class Scrapbook contains a photograph of Mrs. Garber, Dean of Women; and correspondence with presidents of the Athletic Association, YWCA and Alumna Association.

The 1948-1949 Freshman Class Scrapbook contains a photograph of Percy Warren, Academic Dean at Madison College, a photograph of Alberta Warren; correspondence with the Alumnae Association; and other ephemera.

Arrangement

The scrapbooks are disassembled and arranged chronologically in folders.
