Biographical Note

James Robert Werth from Richmond, Virginia, graduated from VPI in 1903 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was active in the Maury Literary Society, and an editor of the Grey Jacket and the Bugle while a student. He served in the Army after graduation, rising to the rank of Major before retiring. He then went to work for General Electric as an electrical engineer. He died in 1959.

A picture of Werth is available on page 32 of the 1903 Bugle (page 38 of the file).

Scope and Content

This collection contains two letters to James R. Werth from friends in 1902 and 1903. The letter from B. Fleet in 1902 discusses mutual friends and the possibility of Werth selling a uniform on Fleet's behalf. This letter also features a number of drawings by Fleet. The 1903 letter from Yost talks about recent VPI sporting events. This letter also has notes written on it, presumably by Werth, relating to the contents.

Arrangement

The collection is arranged chronologically.
