Source of Acquisition
The W. L. Taylor, Jr., Practice Book was donated to Virginia Tech in February 1980. It was transferred to Special Collections in 1992.
Processing Information
The processing, arrangement, and description of the W. L. Taylor, Jr., Practice Book commenced and was completed in 1992. Additional description was completed in June 2009.
Biographical Note
William Leonard Taylor, Jr., was born to William and Irene (Bennett) Taylor on January 2, 1911, in Sayre, Pennsylvania. He was a student at Virginia Polytechnic Institute from 1929 through 1931. He died on June 28, 1961, and is buried with his parents in Tioga Point Cemetery in Athens, Pennsylvania.

Scope and Content
The collection contains a "Lessons in Lettering" practice book that belonged to W. L. Taylor, Jr. The book is the second in a series, with an emphasis on "Inclined Letter Stroke." Taylor completed the exercises in the book and most are graded in the right margin.
