Scope and Contents

Scrapbook by Betty Lou Allcock, resident of Elm Grove, Wheeling, West Virginia (WV). Includes correspondence, photographs, clippings, programs, greeting cards, etc. regarding World War II, Girl Scouts, Girl Reserves, Triadelphia High School, and musical performances.

Correspondence includes greeting cards, postcards, and letters sent to Allcock by friends and family. Correspondents include Corporal James T. Estep and Corporal Robert A. Clark, Allcock's boyfriend. Their letters describe their experiences during basic training and Cpl. Clark's time in the Pacific Theater during WWII.

Photographs include a class photograph of Elm Grove's fourth graders in 1935, and school portraits of Allcock and her classmates at Triadelphia High School, where Allcock graduated in May 1945.

Also included are materials related to the Girl Scouts: newspaper clippings about Girl Scout programs and cookie sales; clippings about fellow Girl Scouts; programs from Girl Scout events; and Allcock's membership cards for Girl Scout Troop 19 of Wheeling, WV. Allcock was also a member of the Girl Reserves, and collected clippings and ephemera related to her involvement in that organization.

Programs are from a variety of concerts and recitals, including a minstrel show performed by the Cadets' Minstrels at the Linsly Military Institute (Linsly School) in 1944.
