Scope and Contents

Additional business records of the firm operating under the names of M.J. Garrison and Bro., in Wadestown, W.Va., including cash books, bank books and ledgers. Business activities include the operation of a general store; livestock purchase and sale; wool purchase and sale, principally in the capacity of purchasing agent for James Auld and Son; school and county orders cashed for teaching, and building of the Range Bridge. Quarterly post office financial reports; Wadestown Telephone Co., sale of stock and operation charges; lumber purchase and sale; oil land lease, drilling operations, sale of oil, line rights of way, names of oil companies operating in the area, and remarks regarding the well numbers and locations; and estimated flow. Entries for gas wells coming in, depth drilled, and names of drillers. Some entries indicate that Mr. Garrison served in a financial administrative capacity for various community enterprises, including the collection and disbursing of funds for the building of the Oak Forest M.E. Church, and for several estates. Other members of the Garrison family mentioned include, J.L., Maude, and Kate. The names of many area residents appear in these volumes.
