Historical Information

The initial meeting to establish a Masonic Lodge in Hamilton, Virginia, was held on 5 May 1868; by December of that year, the chapter received its charter and appointed George W. Janney (1821-1873) as Worshipful Master. For the first five years of its existence, the Lodge met every third Thursday in an unspecified location, but widely believed to be the Town Hall of Hamilton. The cornerstone of the present lodge was laid on 18 June 1873, and was celebrated with a procession led by Chief Marshall Thomas E. Taylor (1832-n.d.) that was attended by members of chapters from both Washington, D.C. and Leesburg. In 1958, the Hamilton and Thompson Lodges were conferred concurrent jurisdiction over Hamilton and Round Hill by the Grand Master. The lodges formally consolidated in July 1994 and remain active.
