Scope and Content
This collection consists of 27 sermons delivered by the Rev. Russell Cecil (1853-1925), 1911-1924, mostly to the Second Presbyterian Church of Richmond where he served as minister beginning in 1901. Several other sermons were delivered to the Railroad Young Men's Christian Association in Richmond .
Also included in the collection is a list of Virginia Girl Scouts service activities, ca.1942-1943, and his report, "A Brief Historical Statement of the Enlistments and Activities of the Second Presbyterian Church, Richmond, VA , in the World War of 1917-1918," written 21 December, 1920. The report lists all members of the congregation engaged in over-seas service and gives an account of the activites of the church at home during the war. All material is arranged in chronological order. A biographical sketch of the Rev. Russell Cecil can be found in the control folder.
