Scope and Content
The papers of the Grayson family of southwest Virginia consist of ca. twenty items, 1837-1895, and undated, and contain correspondence; several accounts of Henry Grayson ; poems; an essay on earthquakes by Mary A. Grayson ; two calligraphy exercise books belonging to James Grayson and Emily (Steele) Grayson ; a printed invitation to a debate of the Nestorian Literary Society at Marion High School ; a memorandum book with notations about livestock transactions, salt and grain sales, and horse pasturage; and instructions for the preparation of seed corn for planting.
The correspondence includes two letters from Lizzie Snavely to Mary (Grayson) McColgan concerning mutual friends and other news, and two letters from W.W. Grayson , brother of Mary, to Mary (Grayson) McColgan . In one letter, W.W. Grayson describes a circus which he attended in Lynchburg, Virginia (April 28, 1894). A fifth letter addressed to baby Alberta McColgan (June 17, 1895) appears to be from an aunt named Alberta.
