Acquisition Information
A gift from Francis L. Berkeley, Jr. of Charlottesville, Virginia, the plate was transferred from the Rare Book Division to the Manuscripts Division on October 9, 1996.
Scope and Content Information
This original colorful Edmund Evans plate containing images of various insects including the stages of the butterfly, 1859, is from The Common Objects of the Country . On the verso is the inscription: "original plate from The Common Objects of the Country, 1859/printed by Evans. Illus. by W. S. Coleman/To Helen & Frank from Ruari Nov. 1967."
This plate was laid in The Reminiscences of Edmund Evans (Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1967), edited and introduced by Ruari McLean.
