This bound volume was purchased by the Library from Jerry N. Showalter, Bookseller, Ivy, Virginia, on November 5, 1993.

Scope and Content Information

There is a journal, 1896-1899, containing the records of the Armstead Deer Hunting Club of Virginia, kept by J. Thompson Brown, Secretary. Included are newspaper clippings concerning the West Augusta County club as well as minutes of annual hunts and annual stockholders meetings. The minutes include such details as: members, guests, and servants present; descriptions of the hunt or "experience meetings"; hunt expenses; and, standard meeting agenda. Club members or guests include Peyton S. Coles, Christopher L. Fowler (1813-1898); F. B. Moran; J. Thompson Brown; F. W. Robertson; Henry "Harry" St. George Tucker (1853- 1932); and, Rev. Walter Q. Hullihen.
