Acquisition Information
These items were given to a member of the American Rhododendron Society by Joan Glass upon the death of her mother-in-law, Anne C. Glass. The papers were then given to the Library by the American Rhododendron Society through Kendon Stubbs of the University of Virginia, on February 14, 1992.
Scope and Content
This collection consists of the papers of Powell Glass (1886-1945), editor of The News and Daily Advance, Lynchburg, Virginia, and his wife, Anne C. Glass, 256 items (2 Hollinger boxes), 1936-1944, [1975], and undated. The papers contain a printed key to rhododedron species (826 pages); the exposure record book belonging to Powell Glass (1941); several printed items, including The Species Problem in Iris by Edgar Anderson, Lilacs For America Report of 1941 Survey Conducted by the Committee on Horticultural Varieties of The American Association of Botanical Gardens and Arboretums, and the bulletin concerning the 1975 seed exchange of the American Rhododendron Society; and slides of iris, peonies, rhododendrons, wisteria, crab apple trees, red bud trees, jonquils, lilacs, forsythia, phlox, and a few family and vacation scenes.
