Acquisition Information
This collection of photographs and postcards was given to the Library by Arthur Parsons Bean, Jr. of Washington, D. C., in August of 1996, through the Rare Book Division of the Special Collections Department.
Scope and Content Information
There are twenty-three snapshots and postcards, ca. 1939-1972, pertaining to the Sitwell family, collected by Arthur Parsons Bean, Jr. There are five postcards depicting photographs or artistic likenesses of Dame Edith Sitwell (1887-1964), Sir Osbert Sitwell (1892-1969), and Sir Sacheverell Sitwell (1897-1988). There are eight snapshots taken in 1969 and 1972 of the Tuscan castle of "Montegufoni" in Italy, which include scenes of the grounds, the tower, the shrine in the wall (tribute to Sir Osbert Sitwell), and other views. There are nine snapshots taken in 1972 and one postcard of "Renishaw," the castle-like residence of the Sitwells located near Sheffield, England, which include scenes of the main building, the grounds, and other views, and one of Reresby Sitwell on the grounds.
