These drawings were given to the Library by Warren Chappell of Charlottesville, Virginia, on November 2, 1989.
Scope and Content Information
This addition to the papers of Warren Chappell of Charlottesville, Virginia, consists of seven pen and ink sketches, 1989, used by the Doubleday Book & Music Club to illustrate their American Masterpiece Library series. The sketches of the authors used as frontispieces include Harriet Beecher Stowe, Walt Whitman, Edith Wharton, and Theodore Dreiser. Drawings not used by Doubleday include two of Harriet Beecher Stowe, and one of Walt Whitman.
