Scope and Content Information
This addition to the Warren Chappell Collection consists of two manuscript books designed, written, and illustrated by Warren Chappell (1904-1991) for Bob and Betty Lamont. The earliest book, "Welcome to LaGuardiaville Testimonials on the Arrival of Bob and Betty Lamont," May 24, 1940, welcomes the Lamonts to New York and includes a separate sheet with a drawing of Paul Revere riding past a sign labelled "Chestnut" with the inscription "Boston April 18-19 MCMXXXX" at the bottom and a poem inside. The second book, "Recasting the Fly," December 1940, features drawings of such creatures as the housefly, the pant's fly, the pop-fly, the gadfly, the shoo-fly, the stage fly, the tenafly, the let fly, and the barfly, and ends with "Wishing Bob & Betty A Merry Christmas from that Old Fly-By-Night W.C. and Spouse L.C." This volume also includes an illustrated poem in honor of Thanksgiving celebrated with the Lamonts, November 20, 1940.
