Acquisition Information

The account book was given to the University of Virginia Library by Elizabeth Rosser Page, Charlottesville, Virginia, through Julius Barclay, on December 1, 1992.

Scope and Content Information

The accounts, 1873-1889, concerning the expenses of Nicholas M. Page [Vice- President of the Bank of Albemarle ?] in settling the estate of Samuel Miller (1792-1869) founder of the Miller School of Albemarle, were written in ink in a memorandum book, 15 x 10 cm., and bound in green leather with a wrap-around cover and clasp. Due to the fragile condition of the original, an electrostatic copy (enlarged to 121 percent of the size of the original) was prepared and the use of the original is restricted.

Individual accounts mentioned in the volume include the Farmers & Merchants Bank, the Albemarle Insurance & Banking Company, Robert N. Page, and the Lynchburg National Bank. It also contains some biographical notes concerning Samuel Miller and a list of the members of the board of the Miller Orphan Asylum Female School of Lynchburg. For a precise list of the contents of the account book see the page following the title page of the electrostatic copy.
