Scope and Content Information

Three ledgers or journals kept by John B. Christian of Greenville, Augusta County, Virginia. The earliest (1815-1818) contains what appear to be a grocer's accounts, as well as copies of letters and miscellaneous memoranda. The second (1823-1828) is a merchant's account book, fragmentary, reflecting a business in Augusta and Rockbridge counties, and was probably kept by members of the Christian family. The third (1827-1828) is a volume of minutes of the Greenville Polemic Society meetings, for which John B. Christian was secretary and later president . The ledger also contains a register, added in 1878, giving John D. Imboden's C.S.A. command, plus lists of Staunton, Va., lawyers, merchants and physicians.
