This collection was a gift to the Library by Mr. Laurens H. Rhinelander of Charlottesville, Virginia, on December 30, 1985.
Scope and Content Information
The collection contains seven diplomas, 1843-1844 and 1847, for William Cabell Rivers, Jr. Diplomas from the University of Virginia on July 4, 1843, were awarded by the schools of Ancient Languages and Literature and French Language and Literature, and, on July 4, 1844, by the schools of Chemistry, Italian Language and Literature, Moral Philosophy, and Political Economy. Also included is a diploma, August 25, 1847, for a baccalaureate degree in Jurisprudence from Harvard University, written in Latin.
