Scope and Content Information
This collection consists of an one-page letter from John Ciardi to Nelson (Algren?), who thanks Algren for sending him Italian editions of The Man With the Golden Arm and Chicago Nights . He remarks, "The tragedies of want, the pathos of needing 'dieci cento,' the familiarity of what Italians call La Miseria (as in Les Miserables) is something the Italian consciousness knows to the bone". Ciardi also comments on the quality of the translation, and mentions the birth of his third child.
