This collection was purchased by the Library from Jerry Showalter, Ivy, Virginia, on October 20, 1994.

Scope and Content Information

In the first letter, written November 25, 1899, Booker T. Washington, Principal, Tuskegee Normal & Industrial Institute, Grand Union Hotel, New York, writes to the Reverend D[avid] H[ummel] Greer (1844-1919), a Tuskegee trustee, New York. He invites Greer to visit Tuskegee Normal & Industrial Institute during the formal opening of their new Trades Building on January 10th [1900] along with the Hampton Trustees, and members of the Slater and Peabody Fund Boards.

The second letter, December 23, 1902, is written by Booker T. Washington, Tuskegee, Alabama, to the Reverend D[avid] H[ummel] Greer, to whom he reports on a positive fund-raising visit with Mrs. Hoagland who offered $500.00 on current expenses.
