Acquisition Information
This collection was given by Miss Grace I. Gish in three consecutive years: May 27, 1965, January 20, 1966, and June 15, 1967.
Biographical/Historical Information
Grace Imogen Gish was born on September 22, 1887 in Roanoke County, Virginia. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Captain George McHenry Gish. Miss Gish was a former public school teacher and office worker who also wrote twelve unpublished novels and many short stories and articles. She is best recognized as a contributor of prose and verse to the following publications: Ladies' Home Journal , Southern Churchman , Christian Observer , New Castle Record , Household Magazine , Christian Herald , The Roanoke Times , Field and Stream , Minutes , and Southwestern Episcopalian .
Scope and Content Information
This collection consists of 13 typescripts (1 Hollinger Box), ca. 1906-1916, and undated, written by Grace Gish of Roanoke, Virginia. These typescripts contain about 174 poems, 22 short stories, a play in one act called "The Agent at Home," an outline of an operetta called "Summer's Surprise," and the following novelettes: "Sin's of the Father's," "They Who Sit Beside Us," "Wind-Swept," "The Wine Cup," and "Loaded Dice."
