Scope and Content Information
This collection contains letters from Annie Fellows Johnston from 1903-1913. In her correspondence she explains problems preventing her usual reading and writing including the illness of her son, John, who was the inspiration for "The Jester's Sword." She discusses "The Beeches," the Pewee Valley, Kentucky, home of General Lawton's family which is mentioned in many of her stories; provides new photographs for publication purposes; sends wedding wishes; and conveys family news.
Correspondents include Louise J. Gaffney and Mrs. Paul Augustine McQuaid.

This collection is arranged chronologically.

Reports that, after leaving "The ranch," they stayed in California for a week and are now in Comfort, Texas, where they plan to stay for "some time." Mentions Gaffney's sister and "Mrs. Lee."
Asks Gaffney to send enclosed picture to "Miss Regina." The picture is of A. F. J. and and "The Little Colonel," taken in "The Beeches," the home of General Lawton's family in Pewee Valley, Ky. Mentions "Mrs. Lee."
Explains her tardy correspondence. Sending, under separate cover, a new picture of herself which should be used, from now on, in advertising copy. Mentions Mr. Page [L. C. Page (?)], Evansville and Mary Ware .
Sending best wishes on the occasion of the recent marriage of Mrs. McQuaid. Asks for her address, so that she can send a wedding present. Acknowledges Mrs. McQuaid's help with The Little Colonel .
Enclosing a picture of the home she bought about a year ago, the home of the Lawtons. It is in Pewee Valley, Ky., mentioned in many of her stories. She lives with her daughter. Mentions Mr. Nunan.
