The letter was from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Newport, to "Dear Sir". Longfellow offers the unnamed gentleman room numbers 12 and 8 for rent, which open into each other and are available immediately or others vacant in a week or two at the cost of eighteen dollars per week for each room.
