This collection was loaned to the Library by Joe Maynard of Charlottesville, Virginia, on October 31, 1991.

Scope and Content Information

There are 96 items, 1975-1990, chiefly concerning Joe Maynard's academic and personal interest in William S. Burroughs. Materials include correspondence, photographs, and printed material as well as two Christmas cards from Burroughs. Letters, 1980-1987, from Julia P. Aaron, include numerous postcards mostly thanking him for various items. In a letter of October 23, 1980, she mentions her brother's hope to get WSB[urroughs] and B[rion] G[ysin] and others to Santa Barbara [California] for a poetry bash. On March 20, 1981, she writes about seeing Burroughs at a Georgetown bookstore signing copies of Cities of the Red Night and briefly discusses her artwork. Other letters to Maynard concern bibliographic information about Burroughs' works. Letters from Random House, Inc. (October 18, 1972) and Grove Press (December 8, 1972) refer to printing information about Burroughs' works. There are letters from BC Research and First Printings of American Authors, divisions of Bruccoli Clark Publishers, concerning the bibliographic checklist of Burroughs' writings for the First Printings of American Authors. The photographs include one of Burroughs and Gysin, signed by both, September 28, 1975, and two photographs of the artwork of Aaron.
