This collection was a gift from Mrs. Murray Christian of Lynchburg, Virginia, on November 19, 1948.
Scope and Content Information
This collection consists of "official photographs" issued by the Press Bureau of Great Britain during World War I. The majority of the photographs bear captions that are very helpful in indentifying and understanding the subject matter. Subjects include: American expeditionary force, aviation, destruction, logistics, merchant marine, naval warfare, near eastern front, non-combat activities, prisoners, royalty, Salonika front, tank warfare, western front, and women's roles.
Arrangement
The photographs have been arranged in folders on the basis of the subjects listed at the end of this summary. Individual photographs may show scenes which contain several subjects; these have been filed with the category which appeared most important. Some subjects contained large numbers of photographs, and from these, a selection of about fifteen to twenty-five photographs appears in a folder at the beginning of that subject.
