Scope and Content Information
This collection consists of ca. 38 items, 1889-1928, 1950, chiefly correspondce and scrapbooks pertaining to Walter Scott Copeland, a Newport News newspaper editor and publisher. A more detailed biographical sketch of Copeland is included in the guide to accession 5497.
The collection consists of one folder of correspondence, 1903, 1921-1926; a resolution regarding Copeland's death, 1928; an article by Grace B. Copeland about White Sulpher Springs, Virginia, and a typescript fragment of an article about a children's carnival. Also included are two scrapbooks. The first covers the years 1889-1928 and contained several loose items such as letters, speeches, newspaper clippings, and pamphlets which were filed into a folder directly following the volume from which they had been removed. The second scrapbook covers the years 1901-1925, 1950 and was kept by Grace B. Copeland. It contains newspaper clippings of articles written by her or pertaining to the Copeland family, letters, memorabilia, and photographs of the grave of Thomas Jefferson and Monticello.
