Additional Papers of Campbell Bascom Slemp, Accession #9507-c, Special Collections, University of Virginia Library, Charlottesville, Va.
Acquisition Information
This addition to the Slemp Collection was mixed in a group of books in the garage of Mr. Glen C. Gilliam of Big Stone Gap. After the material had been moved to their institution, members of the staff of the Clinch Valley College Library separated the printed material from the manuscripts. The papers were transferred to the University of Virginia Library in October 1972 as a gift from Mr. Gilliam.
Scope and Content
This 5 box addition consists chiefly of carbons of Slemp's political and business correspondence for the years 1920-1931. There is information on both Virginia and national politics.
In addition there are scrapbooks, 1908-1916; account books, 1894-1916; and lists of voters in the Ninth District, 1916-1922.
Arrangement
Because the collection was so small it was arranged in one chronological order rather than separating it into several series.
Contents List
There is some correspondence but the contents are chiefly broadsides.
