Scope and Content

The collection includes copies of songs (words and music) written by Massie Ernest HARVEY; a reel–to–reel tape of HARVEY singing his songs; and a letter to the Arthur Smith Show requesting a review of the songs on the tape.

Massie Ernest HARVEY, son of Thomas Edwin HARVEY and Maggie MASSIE, was born 24 February 1909 in Amherst County, Virginia. A self–employed farmer and painter, he also served in the U.S. Army. As an avocation, HARVEY wrote songs (music and lyrics) in a wide variety of styles: rock–and–roll, country, ballads, religious, etc. He died 10 December 1991.
