Biographical Information

George Sprinkle Davis, son of George Washington Davis, was born on 12 June 1870. He married Grace Repass, daughter of J. Winton Repass and Cordelia Halbrook Repass. They had three daughters, Mrs. Donald H. Selvage, Maxine Davis, and Kathleen Davis, and one son, G. Fred Davis. The Davis' lived in Atkins and Groseclose in Smyth County.

George S. Davis served as a trustee for Pleasant Hill Lutheran Church, located in Groseclose, Virginia. Davis died on 18 February 1962 and Grace Repass Davis died 22 October 1970. Both are buried in the Mountain View Cemetery, Rural Retreat, Virginia.

Scope and Content

Series I, Church Records (1936-1928, undated), contains correspondence relating to property of Pleasant Hill Lutheran Church in the Kimberlin parish. Also included are a parochial report of Pleasant Hill Lutheran Church for 1938 and an undated constitution of Grace Lutheran Church. Notes on 1938 expenses of Pleasant Hill Church and a letter to George S. Davis from W. M. Coley about Hawkins Chapel also are included.

Series II, Miscellaneous Records (1925-[1970], contains newspaper obituaries regarding the Davis family as well as a 1926 contract and application for a teaching position in Smyth County, Virginia.
