Biography

William "Bill" Roberton is a Chicago area railroad enthusiast who was employed for many years by the W. H. Miner Company, a manufacturer of appliances for railroad locomotives and cars. The Miner Company published an annual calendare with a specially-commissioned print, and Bill prepared slides of many of them.

Scope and Contents

Includes 23 pages of 35 mm of narrow gauge railroad slides taken by Chicago area railroad enthusiast and W. H. Miner employee William "Bill" Robertson during the 1950s. This collection extensively documents Robertson's two or three visits to Newfoundland in the 1950s when he photographed the former Newfoundland Railway, owned by the crown colony, which had been incorporated into the Canadian National system when Newfoundland jointed the Canadian conferation. Other railroads include: Central Vermont, Manitou & Pikes Peak, White Pass & Yukon, Denver & Rio Grande Western, Chicago & Illinois Midland, Greater Winnipeg Water District and Northern Alberta railroads.
