Biographical / Historical
Roger J. Traynor was born around 1900 in Utah. He pursued his undergraduate education at the University of California, Berkeley, from where he also received both a law degree and a political science PhD. in 1927. He joined the University of California, Berkeley, law school faculty in 1930, and was appointed to the California Supreme Court in 1940, where he eventually became chief justice. Roger J. Traynor died in 1983.
Scope and Contents
This collection of Roger J. Traynor Memorabilia contains copies of letters written to Traynor's wife, Madeleine, upon his death in 1983. It also contains reprinted profiles of both Roger and Madeleine as well as a program from the ongoing Traynor lectures sponsored by the California Center for Judicial Education as well as a copy of the Virginia Law Weekly dated February 12, 1970 announcing him as the recipient of the Visiting James Monroe Professorship at the Law School.
Scope and Contents
This small collection was donated to the Law Library by Mrs. Traynor by way of Laura Alexander in the Foundation Office in April of 1995.
