Immediate Source of Acquisition

George Conrad Newton's Orator's Medal was donated to the Law School Library by his granddaughter, Harriet Conrad Crutchfield Look, in August of 2007.


Biographical / Historical

Born on 24 August 1869, George Newton Conrad married Emily Pasco of Monticello, Florida, and had six children, two of whom also became lawyers, and one of whom also received his law degree from Virginia Law; that son was Samuel J. Pasco, Law 1899. Conrad and both sons lived and practiced law in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Conrad served as Rockingham County Commonwealth's Attorney for 12 years, was a respected member of the Virginia State Senate, and was active in church and civic affairs until his death on January 21, 1937.

Scope and Contents

Conrad's Orator's Medal was awarded to him in 1890 by the Washington Society of the University of Virginia Law School while he was a law student.
